Do you eat a well-balanced diet? Do you know what a well-balanced diet consists of?

Unfortunately, in this era of overindulgence, and fast and packaged foods, many of us don’t understand or recognize what the right foods are. These are foods packed with vitamins and minerals, good acids, fibre and antioxidants. Even if we do eat some nutritious foods during the week, we’re still eating much more saturated fats, cholesterol, and preservative-filled meals. And we’re not consistent enough in our intake of good versus bad.

The Bad Habits Of Eating

There are some people whose bad habits of eating fast foods has become their main diet. These people only choose the cheeseburgers, milkshakes, and pastas on a regular basis. This malnutrition (basically the void of nutrients) does not feed the brain. And it allows for several Alzheimer’s disease contributors, such as a build up of the protein beta-amyloid and raised homocysteine levels. These contributors will ultimately create brain degeneration.

So, what is this balanced diet and what are the nutrients that we need to get from a balanced diet?

Avoid a diet that lacks nutrients and is full of carbohydrates, which turn into glucose sugars (such as pasta, rice, corn). Don’t eat foods high in cholesterol regularly (such as milk, beef and pork). Also, read labels, and avoid any packaged and canned foods that are processed and full of salt and preservatives.

Regularly, eat foods that give you the following nutrients: Omega 3 fatty acids (get it from cold water fish and some nuts), and vitamins C, D, E, and B. Plus the good antioxidants (various fruits and vegetables including spinach, broccoli, beets, plums, oranges, and berries) and folate (beans and lentils).

Remember, diet means regular intake, and not sporadic consumption. So, a large part of your regular eating should be consistently taking in the high nutrient foods and avoiding the low nutrient ones.

Start today, research good nutrition and how to avoid getting Alzheimer’s!
