Coconut Oil Is Good For Anyone, Especially A Person With Alzheimer’s

The Healing Properties Of Coconut Oil

It’s a tropical treat and its oil is probably one of the best fats to give to people with Alzheimer’s disease—it’s coconut!

Usually the food for our brains is glucose. Which comes from carbohydrates and sugars, things like potatoes, pasta, dairy and grains. Carbohydrates are processed as energy in the brain to function. However when glucose isn’t available to the brain or the brain can’t synthesize glucose into energy. It seeks another energy source—fats. The brain processes fats as ketone bodies and produces energy to function.

Here’s where coconut oil comes into play. Research has found that coconut oil with its main active ingredient medium chain triglyceride oil (MCT) provides the right kind of energy for brain cells. Other regular fats that don’t have MCT are not as good as coconut oil. They can’t be synthesized into ketones and energy for the brain.

It’s Worth A Try

It seems that the brain can break down MCT into more ketones. And ketones are easily a good source of energy for the brain. Other fats are not the best source for producing ketones as energy, as anything containing MCT.  More studies are taking place on how this oil is supporting those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.  Many claim there is an effect on their loved one. Some say not really. Is it worth a try?

Why not go ahead and replace coconut oil as the fats you use in food preparation for yourself and anyone with Alzheimer’s disease.  Let us know if you are noticing any changes.  FYI: I put up to two tablespoons of “Organic Virgin first pressed Coconut Oil” in my morning hot oatmeal. Yum!  🙂
